Beanies are in!!

That's right - the beanie hats are in and available for order! They aren't the same color as the t-shirts, but still look great. They are a darker, navy blue and the logo that is on the back of all the t-shirts is pretty much what's on the front of the beanie. The only change is that "NBCR" is underneath the crossed oars rather than above them. Here's a pic!

You can order online HERE.

Happy Busy Holidays!

Awe, didja miss us?? Sorry there haven't been that many blog postings recently. Between the holidays and trying to wrap up our 2010 year, things have been a little busy. Plus, this California girl isn't so great at dealing with all this white stuff the sky keeps dumping! Scraping windshields and shoveling snow?? WHAA?? So yeah, I finally broke down and now have every puffy jacket, scarf, pair of gloves, and hats dug out of boxes, and a new pair of fuzzy snow boots on my feet. I have a feeling these will be all I wear for a few months...

So, while I wasn't blogging, I was busy collecting money!! Yes, that's correct - WE HAVE MATCHED THE CHALLENGE GRANT!!!!! Thanks to lots of very generous and caring people out there, we have reached our goal and are now guaranteed to be given $25,000 again next year! We'll have to match it again, but we'll have longer than 6 months to do it in! This means that we can plan out our spring and summer seasons and will have enough money in the bank to operate until we begin collecting enough in revenue to sustain our costs. This is great news! It also means that for all of those kids that can't afford the fees to row, they can row anyway! We get to change lives, all thanks to you generous folks. Thanks for giving New Bedford a rowing club for Christmas!

Now, off to go put together reports and all that "fun" stuff..I know you're jealous. :) Happy Holidays and may 2011 bring us all what we wish for! (I already got my wish)

It just keeps getting better

Not only have we managed to reach our challenge match goal, we have received a few more donations in the mail today! They may or may not wish to remain anonymous so I'll leave their names out of it, however several of them are rowers. You guys are awesome!! Thank you so much for supporting the club and for being a part of it all. You're all a pleasure to work with and I can't wait to hit the water with all of you this spring!!!

WE DID IT!!!!

As if it were a Christmas gift to all of us at NBCR and to the people of the Greater New Bedford community, we've matched the challenge grant!!! Yes, it's true - we had 2 people step up and close out the last $5,000 of the match!! They wish to remain anonymous otherwise I would be hailing their names to the heavens. Both have supported NBCR in the past, to boot.

All of the people that have given a donation to NBCR in any amount are how we made this happen. Every single bit helps and it all added up to reach our goal. THANK YOU to all of you that have supported NBCR whether financially or otherwise. It still amazes me the amount of support we've gotten in just 6 months.

I'm extremely excited for what's to come and now that we've secured $25,000 for next year (thanks to the match), we can move forward planning the spring and summer seasons. There are LOTS of exciting things in the works, so believe me, you want to be a part of this. New location, new docks, new races, new rowers, new coaches, maybe even some new equipment! The sky is the limit for us as long as we have the support of those that have gotten us this far. You are all fantastic!!!!!!

Merch Orders

Wow who knew that beanie hats were so popular! Larissa, our resident apparel guru, is working on t-shirt orders. There is a shipment expected in today and once that comes in, we can post a picture of the beanie hats, although it seems that people want 'em anyway, sight unseen.

Thanks Larissa, for all of the effort you put into these things. It's time consuming and a pain in the butt, but you do a great job. Thanks to you we'll soon blanket all of New Bedford with our t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats!!

College

Some of our kids are sending out emails to coaches, filling out online forms, submitting SAT and ACT scores to colleges. The process is a tedious and sometimes daunting one, but our kids are plugging away and some are even hearing back from coaches. This is good stuff! Hopefully we'll have several kids rowing for top programs in the next couple of years and proving that NBCR is a great thing for the area. I also just recently heard back from a UMass Crew teammate of mine that was a NBHS grad in '94. We both never got the opportunity to row before UMass but it was a huge part of both of our lives. Neyla - this is for you and all the other people that never got to row in high school!!

MERCH page on the website!

http://www.newbedfordcommunityrowing.org/merch/

There it is, folks. With a little help from an amazing IT guy, I finally got the page up on our website, AND got the order form to work. Yay! (hey - for me, this is a big deal!)

So order yourself a snazzy t-shirt or sweatshirt online and we'll get them out to you as soon as we get them in. We have some stuff in stock already so we may be able to get it to you before Christmas!

Happy Friday!

The days and weeks are ticking off pretty quickly here in December. The holidays are approaching and it's becoming painfully obvious that shoppers are everywhere. Trying to run errands turns into an exercise in futility, or at least a much longer excursion than necessary.

The Challenge Grant is also going well. Yes, we only have a couple precious weeks to match the full $25,000 but we're within $5,000!!! So anyone out there that is looking to support a good cause and/or get their company to support us, NOW is the time! Sooooo close...... Help us reach it before the deadline and give rowing to the people of New Bedford for Christmas!

Wisner Murray is coming along very well, getting himself acquainted with all things NBCR. We've got our first meeting with the HDC, EPA, and the EDC on Monday and he's very excited to get put into the mix. If all goes as planned, we'll have new, permanent incredible docks put in for the spring season!! YAY!! For those of you with 'fond' memories of the bubble docks, I'm sure this is fantastic news to you :)

Enjoy your weekend, people and try to stay out of the holiday shopping mess! Happy Holidays to all of you out there.

T-Shirts!!!

The pictures below are the best quality that me and my dinosaur of an iPhone could produce. I myself have purchased a medium t-shirt and hooded sweatshirt and the sizes seem to run pretty normal - not small or overly large. I LOVE my hoodie. The color is called Indigo Blue - not navy, it's lighter. Not royal, less bright. It's sort of like a slate blue, if that helps you.

All of them have the CRI logo on the front and then crossed oars with NBCR on the back. T-shirts are $15, Long sleeve shirts are $20, Crewneck Sweatshirts are $35, and Hoodies are $45. We haven't gotten the beanie hats in yet, but they'll be navy with the same NBCR/oar logo embroidered on the front, just smaller. Those will also be $15.

Email either myself at carolyn@communityrowing.org, or give a call to 508.717.4013 to place an order. If we have it in stock, it's yours immediately. If we don't have the sizes you want, we can order it and it takes about a week or two for it to come in. I'll also be putting a page on our website to place an order but credit cards won't be accept for these purchases. Check, cash, or money order will work best. Just look on www.newbedfordcommunityrowing.org under "MERCH"

Hoodie: Back...

The classic.....T-shirt, back and front

Merch!!

We made up some t-shirts and sweatshirts for the Trivia Throwdown and they seemed pretty popular. With that in mind, we had some more printed up just in time for the holidays! (okay, sorry Channukah, we missed you didn't we?) In any case, we've got t-shirts, long sleeve t's, crew neck sweatshirts, and hooded sweatshirts. We also just had a batch of beanie hats made too. I'll take some pictures and post on here, and then make a page for the website. Keep your loved ones warm this winter with the coolest sweatshirt around!!

Youth and Environmental Programs

Last night I was invited by Scott Durkee (Director of Energy Office) to a little get together with some other amazing people doing great things here in New Bedford. I didn't get to chat with everyone there, but I did meet a few new, very interesting people. "Ms. Dolce" from OSS and Kalia from the Marion Institute were great to talk to. Mark Smith from the Ocean Explorium had some funny stories to tell and has even rowed himself. I saw Peter and Katie from Nativity Prep, and a few others. I'm excited to get involved with these folks and learn more about the programs they are running or a part of. Thanks Scott, for inviting me!!

Getting Closer!

Great news! Another check toward our Challenge Grant has just come in from Dave Johnson!! I recently met him up at CRI at the Annual Meeting where a new club president (Lila McCain) and 2 new board members (Amy Cederholm & Cissy Young) were elected. Congrats to them all.

I sat at a table with Dave and after a brief presentation (okay, so maybe my presentation was longer winded than the others...you all know me by now) several people came up to talk to me about the exciting things happening here in New Bedford. Everyone was very supportive and very happy to hear about all of the successes. Small world that it is, Amy Cederholm grew up in New Bedford, went to Bishop Stang, and started rowing at CRI 5 years ago. With the generous donation from Dave Johnson and his company NESLCO (New England Security Lock Company), we can make sure that someone like Amy doesn't have to wait years and years after high school to find rowing. Now we're here!! And with $5,000 more, we'll match the challenge grant and be here to stay :)

So thank you, Dave. Thank you for your generous donation and for supporting another rowing club. CRI values your support up there and we certainly do down here as well.

All put to bed :)

With the wonderful help of Cara Lombardi, Kerry Angilly, Peter Hawes, Ames Colt, and Richie Medeiros, we were able to unload our trailer and put all of our equipment officially "away" for the winter! It has to be said, that although we had 6 NBCR bodies, we could not have gotten it all done without the very generous help of Coach Brent Bode, and the CRI Youth Boys team. They were invaluable! Coach Marko wasn't so happy that his practice started a little bit late, but we were so appreciative of the help those boys gave! And man, were some of them tall! Good luck to the boys this spring - they look strong and ready to dominate! And thanks, Bode - for unlocking everything and helping us get everything put where it needed to go. NBCR people - thanks for making the trip up to CRI on a precious Saturday in December. I know it's not easy to get away during the holidays but it was very great of you to do so.
Thanks everyone! Happy Holidays!

Wisner Murray!

Yesterday Wisner and I met and discussed various ways he can get involved with NBCR. He and his lovely wife Betts have already been involved, going back to volunteering for our NB Popes Island Regatta. They held key positions and were a great help to us. Apparently Wisner couldn't get enough and wants to stick around! We're VERY lucky to have Wisner help us in Development and our first task is to work on getting the dock project moving along. Kristin Decas (executive director for the Harbor Development Commission) has already done a lot of great work in securing grant money and now we've got to get permitting in line. I'm very thankful to have Wisner's help with this sort of thing as he has an immense amount of knowledge and experience in Development. Welcome to the team, Wisner!

Need motivation over the winter?

New way to train! One of our rowers - Steve Gillum - told me about a website that allows you various options for training on the erg. It can link you with other people all over the world and you can train together. You can track your progress and gain access to Olympic coaches' workouts. Here's the website for any of you that may be interested in it!

Saturday Trip

Despite December being a tough time of year for people to eke out some extra time, I think we've gotten just enough people to make the trip up to CRI on Saturday! I know it's tough for people to get away and many can't make it, but luckily we have a handful that can find the time. We're sure to have a good time and can always use a few more hands. Looking forward it!

Unloading

So now that we've packed everything up onto a trailer and taken it back up to CRI for the winter, it seems we've gone into a bit of hibernation. We still need to unload that trailer before the snow comes! Looking for helping hands this Saturday to meet us at CRI to unload our equipment and store it properly for the winter (aka inside :) ) and then either have a fun erg rodeo or a cookout. CRI has an awesome grill that we can cook up some tasty burgers on! Here's hoping more people respond that this Saturday the 11th works for them!

P.S. You don't have to be a rower to help...hint hint hint :) And if you haven't yet seen the amazing new CRI boathouse, this is a perfect opportunity to check it out and get a personal tour.

Brrrrr!

Boy it sure gets cold here. This wuss from California (by way of Savannah, GA before that) is not used to this. And I'm hearing about this stuff they call SNOW?!?! Oh boy...I'm so glad we're not on the water anymore!

So far Winter Training is going well. The numbers are low but the feedback has been schedule conflicts and holiday commitments. There are several adults and kids that will be joining us later on in the winter season. So that means we have room for YOU! The coaches are putting the finishing touches on their training plans and have a goal of a top performance at the CRASH B's Indoor Rowing Championship on February 20th. It's quite a sight so if you're a racer, start training now. If you're just curious, come watch!

Beer & Wine Tasting = SUCCESS!!

Last night was a fantastic event! Thank you all for coming out despite the wind and rain. The upstairs loft area of Cork was nice and warm, though. Thanks to Mike Galvin, General Manager of Cork Wine & Tapas Bar, Richard Cardoza, owner, and the folks over at Rose Alley Ale House - Jay Lanagan, co-owner, and Jordan Chabot, beer guru. They poured some great beers that were seasonal along with both red and white wines that paired well with the delicious food they were serving. (the philly cheesesteak rolls are aaa-mazing)

We had about 25-30 people in attendance and some came from the Boston area, the Wareham area, even Rhode Island to support us. It was great to see a few board members there. Tom Gonsiorowski, our board president, and his wife Barbara along with Anne Eisenmenger and her husband Patrick Lester. We had lots of rowers on hand and even the youth coach Briana Blood. Larissa McLaughlin as usual, was a key person helping out at the welcome table.

I had some great conversations with many different people and it was a fun evening. I spoke a little bit about our challenge grant and the deadline of December 31st so hopefully there were people in the audience that know of supporters we can contact. The people that came to support us last night raised $1100!! What amazing people we've found here in New Bedford... I love it here! We even got a few people that plan to row in the spring (Jay...Fletcher...Kevin...)

There were more people that wanted to make it but either the time or the day was tough for them. So I'm extremely happy with the turnout that we had and I want to say thank you to all that help us do what we do. It's the efforts of all of us that make NBCR successful!

THANK YOU ALL!!

Beer & Wine Tasting is TONIGHT!!

Now that we've gotten all of the ergs over to the YMCA and have begun the winter training, it's time for you all to have some fun too. Join us at Cork Wine & Tapas Bar tonight from 6-8pm for a fantastic sampling of seasonal beers from Rose Alley Ale House, and several different wines from Cork. We'll have some small bites for you to enjoy (although a full dinner downstairs at Cork or Rose Alley is recommended - delish!). Come meet some rowers and learn a bit about New Bedford Community Rowing and how you can get involved. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Winter Training has begun!!

Well it's official - the winter training season is upon us! This morning we brought over another erg (thanks trivia night proceeds!) and started our first adult practice. We had a few returning rowers and one brand "newbie" that had surprisingly great form right off the bat. Ken Clark was our fearless leader and already warned us of what sort of 'fun' he had planned for us.

This afternoon the youth program kicks off 4-6, and then on Tuesday we start the adult evening group. It was going to run 7:15-9 but we've moved it up to 6:15 to start right after the kids practice. For any of you interested, you can sign up HERE and here's the schedule:

Adult AM:
M, W, Th 5:30-7am
Adult PM:
T, Th, F 6:15-8pm

Youth:
M, T, Th, F 4-6pm

Turkeeeeeeyyyyy

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful and also delicious Thanksgiving with loved ones. I got to see family I hadn't seen in years and man....my aunt is a PRO at making Thanksgiving dinner! The only problem? There were 25 people so no leftovers!!

Lest you think the triptophane took hold, we've been moving ergs around in preparation of Monday when Winter Training begins!! Yes, at 5:30am, we kick off a 4 month season of indoor fun. For those of you that aren't so keen on 5:30 am, we have an evening group as well. It's scheduled for 7:15-9pm but we may move that up to 6:15-8pm if that works for those signed up. For the youth, they'll be practicing 4-6 every weekday but Wednesday when they focus on academics.

Enjoy your weekend and gobble up those leftovers!

Trivia Throwdown SUCCESS!!

We had a great night with some fantastic people coming out to support NBCR. Jay and John at Rose Alley Ale House helped us put on a great event, Mike from Cork came to support us and helped us get things situated. The trivia DJ was awesome and Larissa McLaughlin did an incredible job putting it all together.

Many thanks to the teams that came to play and to the staff at Rose Alley who took great care of us. Special thanks to those that weren't able to make it, but still donated money or advertised for us anyway. We were able to spread the word about what we're doing and what our mission is and we even got a few recruits! And to top it all off...we raised $600!!!!! That includes some t-shirt sales, but that's also after we paid out the first place prize of $150 and paid the DJ. With that money, we can purchase one used ergometer to use for winter training (which starts on Monday). We're borrowing three machines thanks to the generosity of Rachel Eisenhaure, Anne Eisenmenger & Pat Lester, and Betts & Wisner Murray. That will bring our total up to 5 machines with more to come!

So, all in all we had a very successful night of fun and laughs and you can plan on us repeating. Come January, we're going to hold Trivia Throwdown monthly - plan for it now and start studying!!!

Trivia Throwdown has arrived!

That's right folks, the time has come. The time to test your wits against friends and foes alike all in the name of support for New Bedford Community Rowing! We'll be kicking off the Throwdown tonight at Rose Alley Ale House at 6/6:30 pm and it'll go until about 8:30/9pm. All are welcome, but teams are filling fast.

The icing on the cake is that there's live music afterward! you can stick around and hash out all the "I KNEW that one!" questions while you eat, drink, and be merry listening to live music by Jeff Gobush and Thom Hiller.

So come on down with your team and compete for prizes at the Trivia Throwdown!!

Thank You Crapo Foundation!!

Great news everyone! Laurie Bullard submitted a grant proposal on behalf of New Bedford Community Rowing to the Crapo Foundation. It's a local charity that has been around since the 1950's. The great news is that the Crapo Foundation has approved the proposal!! This is a huge boost to our already successful start and will make it much easier to get through the winter. Thank you to the Crapo Foundation as well as to Laurie Bullard for believing in us!!!

College Night = a SUCCESS!

We had 5 of our senior/junior rowers in attendance tonight with several parents along for the ride. Maura and Gail held a great discussion about all the many facets to preparing for college. In one parent's quote "this is so overwhelming" and NBCR is so glad that they came down to help make sense of it all. If any of you weren't able to make it tonight come talk to me or Coach Blood to get some information.

Trailers are fun

Yes, it can be a little nerve racking to drive a long trailer carrying everything the club owns on it, but it was actually really fun! Needless to say, Paul did a great job repairing our yellow 8 and now all of our equipment is safely up at CRI in Brighton for the winter. Thanks CRI!!

Our Winter Training will kick off on November 29th and be held at the New Bedford YMCA. You can register on our website. Sign up now! Training for both youth and adults is being offered. If you haven't rowed before but want to try, this is the PERFECT time to start!

Our Sisters' School

After meeting with Hillary Parker at Our Sisters' School (a private independent middle school in New Bedford), we've decided to team up on a volunteer basis. Coach Briana Blood, with a little help from me, will be volunteering one day a week for at least 12 weeks to work with the girls that go to school there. They opened in 2008 and have a total of 53 students in 4 grades. I got a tour today and they're doing some great things that New Bedford Community Rowing would be happy to be a part of.

Hopefully we'll also set up something similar with Nativity Prep to work with the boys as well. They've been open a bit longer (10 years) but it's also a private middle school. As you all know, NBCR relies heavily on fundraising and volunteers, and so do these schools. We know all too well how important local support is so we're trying to do our part in giving back to the wonderful community of New Bedford. If you don't volunteer in your community, go out and find a cause to support! There are so many in need!

Great Stuff!!

Okay so who really likes Mondays, right? Normally I wouldn't but today has been a great one so far.

We're at about 99% completion with the YMCA Winter Training Deal and it's going to start right after Thanksgiving. We'll be training indoors for about 4 months, and our main goal will be C.R.A.S.H. B's in February (indoor race).

I just spoke with Ellen Minzner up in Lawrence about the programs she's running up there (Greater Lawrence Rowing). (she's a fantastic rower with quite an elite level history of success, not to mention the coaching she's done). They're hopefully going to scrimmage with us and join up in other ways as they're doing the same sort of community outreach as New Bedford. Ellen also used to be my coach at CRI so any chance to team up with her is exciting for me, personally :)

Teams for our Trivia Throwdown (tuesday 23rd @ 6pm @ Rose Alley) are forming now and there seem to be quite a number of people coming! The trash talking has already begun, so it truly will be a 'throwdown'... muahahaaaaa >: )

College Night Thursday 11/18 @ 6:30!!

We're having a few women come and talk to our kids and parents about college, rowing, etc. We'll be meeting at 6:30 on Thursday the 18th at the Quest Center building (1213 Purchase Street) upstairs in the 3rd floor conference room. All high school rowers and their parents are encouraged to go, no matter what grade you're in.

Also, one of our rowers -Andrew- is helping me to organize a trip out to UMass Amherst so the kids can talk to some coaches and watch a college rowing practice. The UMass women's team is "varsity" and thus governed by NCAA rules, but the men's team is club, so the boys can hopefully get more involved in the practice (should Tony Cronin decide our kids get to play in his sandbox!). This will be a great trip for all of the kids and it'll be fun for all of us. Hopefully we'll make the trip on the 20th of this month. GO UMass!!

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope you all hugged a vet yesterday to thank them for all that they do for us. Thanks vets!!

So our boats and all the other equipment is safely hanging out at Peinert Boatworks in Mattapoisett, and today around 5pm we're going to move our yellow 8 into Paul's shop for a bit of repair work. After Paul has worked his magic, we'll probably need a few people again next week to put the boat back on the trailer. Then, yours-truly gets to drive a loaded up trailer up to Brighton so that all of our stuff can get tucked away at CRI for the winter. Thanks, CRI!

All packed up...

We had a great group of rowers come out last night to pack up our club. It was cold, dark, and rainy but we had some die-hards that worked really really hard. We got all of the boats loaded, the launches, even the racks that the boats were sitting on!

Our "club" will reside at CRI for the winter but our training never stops. My apologies on not having details just yet but trust me we're working on it. Enjoy the peace while you can get it!

I hope to see all of you at our Trivia Throwdown on Tuesday November 23rd at Rose Alley!!

Time to Pack!

The day has finally come, folks. Yes we need to officially pack up all of our boats and equipment and store it for the winter. Having just moved from California, this is new for me. I'm used to rowing all year 'round! Although now we won't have to worry about lack of daylight and if it's raining or not. We'll also get to work super hard and become very fit.
So, anyone that feels like coming on down around 3:30 or 4:00 this afternoon, we'll be a Popes Island and need LOTS of helping hands. It should go pretty quickly since a lot of the work is already done. We just need multiple bodies for the heavy lifting. Oh yeah - and the tall folks to help put boats on the tippy-top of the trailer. Good thing our youth boys are so tall!

Monday, November 8, 2010

Ergs and Boats, Ergs and Boats...

A few things happening here with equipment. We've derigged all of our 8's and our 4 and pulled the launches out of the water. Tomorrow we'll be loading everything up onto the trailer and it'll live up at CRI for the winter. Sad, but just moving on to the next phase! (feel free to come on down tomorrow around 3:30/4pm to help load!)

Which brings us to winter training. Still waiting to hear from the YMCA but we've started acquiring a few ergs to set us up for winter training. So far we've got 5 and hope to make it to 10. I love inflicting pain on larger groups!! Muahahahaaaa >: )

Also, a close friend of mine is selling her racing single. It's not like the zephyrs we've been loaned by Peinert Boat Works - this is much skinnier! You really gotta know what you're doing to row this little guy, but the owner (original) has taken extremely good care of it. Here are a few photos but there are more if you're interested. Fun morning in singles

Our numbers are a bit low now that we've wrapped up our official fall season, but there are definitely a few die hards out there. This morning myself and 3 such die hards had a small sculling lesson. It was dark when we arrived, pretty windy, and raining. Did they want to call it off? No way! So we took out the zephyrs that Paul Milde is letting us use and they had a blast! Funny enough, the rain wasn't hard but the winds actually died down once we launched! That never happens so it was a nice surprise. One person (Nancy Durfee) also has a line on an Alden shell that she may be acquiring over the winter and has agreed to let other NBCR members use it! If we can get Paul's zephyrs back in the spring, that means we'd have THREE singles to use! For a club that is so new, that's amazing. I love this place... :)

TRIVIA NIGHT!!!

That's right we're hosting a trivia night! It's going to be Tuesday November 23rd at Rose Alley Ale House in downtown New Bedford. Come on out from 6:30-8:30 with your team of 4-6 people (if you don't have 4, we'll pair you up with others!) and bring your thinking caps. Rose Alley Ale House serves great pub food, has a full bar, and yes as an ale house, a huge selection of beer. We're asking for $10 per person to support New Bedford Community Rowing, but we'll have prizes for you to win!

You can email me at carolyn@communityrowing.org to let me know that you've got a team and are ready to show your stuff, or just show up! We hope there is enough interest that we can do this every month with different prizes each month, but we already have several teams coming. We've got lots of things planned so stay tuned and I hope to see you on Tuesday the 23rd!!

Halloween & dressing properly

Well, I hope all of you out there had a fun and happy Halloween. Luckily, no tricks have been played on us, but we do have a treat. We get to keep rowing for 2 more weeks! Sure it's starting to get cold now that we've planned this but hey - we're tough and that won't stop us. Rowing in cold weather is why rowers are often called "gear-dogs"...we need all the fancy schmancy "wicking" shirts and leggings and all that stuff. We shop for the latest in material technology that REI has to offer and talk about our coolest new weather shirts.

Okay, so I make fun of us a little. But actually, dressing properly for working out in cold weather is very important. Sure you can spend tons of money on the latest greatest thing, but that's not necessary. Layering is key because you want to start off warm but be able to peel layers as you get further into your workout and begin to sweat. If you only have 2 layers on, you'll start off cold, then be burning up, strip to your one layer, then get it soaked and never be able to get warm after the practice is over. Making sure that the first layer is NOT cotton is also very important. Hikers have a saying that is true for all outdoor enthusiasts: "wet cotton kills". When you wear a cotton t-shirt and start sweating, it sticks to you. Then it cools off and between the cold sweat from the inside and the cold elements from the outside, you freeze. Make sure that the closest layer to your skin is something that will "wick" moisture away from you.

There are lots of options for what to wear and those of you that are internet savvy, do a search or two for proper outdoor gear for working out. The rest of you can ask a coach or go to a sporting goods store and see what they have available, and then ask the salesperson what the materials do. Even if you just go to the specialty store to find out about the materials, you can probably find similar materials at Target, Kohls, or Walmart. You don't have to spend a lot but it IS important to dress for the weather.

See ya out there!!

Continuation

Good news, rowers!! The powers that be at Popes Island have told me that we don't have to leave right at the end of the month! That means that we can stay and row for as long as we want. I'm thinking that another 2 weeks or so on the water would be good, as we start to really lose daylight and it will eventually get really cold.

The coaches are up for continuing to coach and so far several rowers have said they'd like to. This is great! In the meantime, I'm meeting with some great women at the New Bedford YMCA to figure out what we can do for the winter season. There are lots of indoor racing opportunities so whether you want to train for fun, or to compete, we'll have an option for you. Teaming up with the Y would be great because they have so much to offer and hopefully the deal would include a discounted rate for all of you to join.

Heading into the Spring season, we should be fit, strong, and raring to gooooooooooo!!!!!!

Last Week!

Yes, it's getting to be that time. The time of year when the water and air conditions start to be more unpleasant than most would like. So far the weather hasn't been bad, but this week is the last of our official fall season. If the weather stays like it has been and we don't have to remove our equipment from Popes Island, we may stay on the water for a week or two longer. There are at least a few interested rowers so you could see us out there for a bit longer.

However, even if we do wrap things up as far as on-the-water training goes, never fear that we'll let you fall victim to boredom! We will have winter training set up soon and start to really crack the whip! We've got kids trying to get into college that will need erg data (those rowing machines actually give useful information) to submit to coaches so we'll definitely be focused on training them. We've got lots of adults that want to train through the winter months and be ready to hit the water fit and strong and ready to win some races. Stay tuned - the details will come to light shortly!

Great weekend

The weekend was a busy one, but of course a great one. Rachel Eisenhaure did a fantastic job running the table at the DA's Office Volunteer Fair! She had Maria and Andrew Pereira there to help and they ran a great event. They identified several possible tutors for the kids, several people interested in volunteering with us, and several people that want to row! There were also some great ideas on ways to move forward this winter and set up for the spring. Great job guys!

The Head of the Charles Regatta was this weekend and it saw some great weather and amazing racing! Several of the NBCR rowers were on hand volunteering and even a few of them were racing! Anne Eisenmenger rowed in an 8+ with Cambridge Boat Club and Margaret Ishihara was volunteering for CBC as well. Several other NBCR rowers were there to watch and I hope they got bitten by the bug...we'll be going for entries next year so start training now!!

Strong Weekend Ahead!

While a few of us are gearing up for the Head of the Charles Regatta (either to participate, spectate, or volunteer) there are also a few other things going on this weekend.

The DA's Office is hosting a Volunteer Fair at the Dartmouth Mall on Saturday from 11am-3pm. We've been invited to set up a table there and try to recruit volunteers to work with us. It's a fantastic opportunity for us and thanks to Ken Clark and Rachel Eisenhaure who were able to connect us.

Rachel will be working the table tomorrow but will need a few extra hands - go join her! It's also a great opportunity for us to recruit more rowers!

Article from the Boston Globe today about CRI

Veterans find rowing disarming

Time on Charles is all about solace

By John Powers
Globe Staff / October 21, 2010

When Matt Williams was an infantryman in Iraq, each sunrise brought a devastating anxiety.

“We used to do the death walk every day at 6 a.m. looking for IEDs [improvised explosive devices],’’ the Billerica native recalled. “Our company alone found 973. One split my vehicle in half.’’

So it’s a joy for him now to paddle along the Charles, where a floating branch, a disoriented goose, or an errant coxswain, is the most hazardous object.

“It’s calm,’’ said Williams. “Very therapeutic.’’

Among the novices of all ages who turn up at Community Rowing Inc.’s Harry Parker Boathouse in Brighton is a diverse group of veterans of both genders. Some served in Iraq and are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorders. Others attend Bunker Hill Community College on the GI Bill.

What they’ve found on the water is both what they loved and what they lacked in the military.

“One of the biggest benefits of rowing is the camaraderie and the tranquility,’’ said Lindsey Kirchhoff, a Missouri native who is serving in the Air Force and attending graduate school in the area.

CRI, whose motto is “Rowing For All,’’ has been welcoming neophytes to the river for a quarter-century and from the beginning was a leader in adaptive rowing for people with various disabilities. Veterans are merely the newest wave of curious who become converts.

“CRI is doing an outstanding job of supporting veterans,’’ said Kirchhoff. “It’s incredible what they’re doing. It’s such a productive way to show appreciation.’’

None of the veterans who come for the programs conducted by coaches Patrick Carpenter and John Sisk ever shoved off a dock until they turned up at the boathouse. Kirchhoff was a competitive college swimmer. Williams played football and basketball. Paul McEuen will be running track and cross-country at UMass-Boston. Kevin Cadieux played baseball.

What they discovered is that moving an unstable boat along a lumpy river is tipsy business, especially for a rookie.

“It’s a little bit of a challenge,’’ said the 49-year-old Cadieux, who lives in Lowell and, like Williams, is affiliated with the Veterans Administration facility in Bedford. “It’s not like you’re rowing and you’re sightseeing. You have to pay attention or you can have an unexpected swim.’’

Krystal McEuen, Paul’s sister and a fellow Iraq veteran, nearly went over on her first outing.

“It scared me,’’ she said. “I crabbed, and I thought I was going to fall out.’’

While flipping is an inevitable rite of passage for rowers, the lure of the river usually proves irresistible.

“A lot of guys end up in the water,’’ said Joe Grimard, a recreational therapist for the Bedford VA. “But they enjoy it anyway.’’

For Gabriel Sanchez, a soldier who was stationed at Fort Leavenworth and now attends Bunker Hill, just coming to the Charles is a treat.

“Having served in Kansas,’’ he said, “I’m just happy to be on the water.’’

For the veterans who are undergoing therapy for combat-related injuries and issues, the boathouse provides a welcome getaway, if only for a few hours a week.

“Just getting outside, getting back to a physical activity,’’ said Grimard, a Navy veteran. “They can be at the VA for several months, so it’s nice to come here and not have bricks and ID tags around them.’’

The Bunker Hill students row twice a week, arriving at the boathouse around 5 a.m.

“You’re finishing in the dark,’’ said Calder Reardon, a CRI volunteer who learned to row there. “You’re looking at the Orion constellation.’’

Yet there’s an undeniable pleasure to be gliding along the river while the cities on either side still are asleep.

“Iraq was go-go-go and it was 24/7,’’ said Paul McEuen, an Army sergeant who served two tours there as well as one in Kosovo. “Here you have a job but it’s very serene. Everything is flowing evenly.’’

The Zen quality of rowing, the delicate but essential balance between force and fluidity, is a novelty for veterans accustomed to all-out action and adrenaline.

“The first time out, they wanted to shred it,’’ said Carpenter, who also coaches the combined Arlington-Belmont high school boys’ program. “Every time the oar went in the water, it was full pressure.’’

Dialing it down was a new concept for veterans, but they’ve made the adjustment.

“We’re so adaptable,’’ said Paul McEuen. “The military has taught us to go with the flow.’’

If only six people turn up for a workout, those present will recruit a couple more for an eight. If there only are four, they’ll row in a four.

The skills and values that McEuen and his seatmates learned in uniform have translated well to a sport that is defined by both regimentation and unpredictability.

“Their discipline,’’ said Carpenter. “Their ability to learn. Their ability to take constructive criticism. Their ability to solve problems. Their competitiveness. They want to be the best.’’

What the veterans enjoy, besides the pleasure that comes with messing around in boats and the sense of achievement of getting one moving smoothly after beginning awkwardly, is the comfortable familiarity of a group endeavor.

“I heard one young man say, ‘I’m just happy to be in the community,’ ’’ said Reardon.

Community Rowing, which prides itself on being inclusive, has ample dock space for newcomers who are accustomed to a milieu of sand and rock as well as plenty of support and advice from coaches and volunteers.

“These guys are great,’’ said Cadieux. “Every one of them has gone the extra mile.’’

The boathouse, which is named for the legendary Harvard coach and Olympic oarsman who also was a veteran, is happily free of camouflage and the stressful uncertainties of military life.

“You’re rowing in a whole different world,’’ said Williams. “You’re on a different planet. You don’t feel restricted. You’re out there by yourself.’’

Paul Milde and boat repairs!

Just to keep you all in the loop, we've been very lucky to have Paul Milde (rows in the morning group and has helped us with some boat work before) offer his professional services to us! He runs Peinert Boat Works in Mattapoisett and is the guy who is letting us use his 2 singles. The yellow boat is a pretty sturdy fella because it's actually not in that bad of shape from the kind of fall it took and Paul feels confident he can repair it to the point where it'll be as good as new. Thank you Paul!

Head of the Charles Regatta

www.hocr.org

This weekend brings us the world-renowned Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. Racing kicks off at 8am on both Saturday and Sunday and runs through about 5pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday. Many world class athletes come from all over the world to compete in this prestigious regatta. You'll also find many local rowers racing their hearts out along the 3 mile course. There are lots of great spots to watch, most notably from either Anderson Bridge or the Weeks Footbridge. This area is known for its very difficult turns and often sees crashes (yes, crashes. rowing is usually a non-contact sport, but the Charles brings lots of 'extras' into the mix).

It's a great weekend to be in Boston. Plenty of exciting races to watch, the beautiful foliage changing color, and enjoying the fall season before winter comes. I hope to see many of you out there along the shores of the great Charles River!

Mayors' Arts Challenge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XemkaZwqys&feature=player_embedded

Watch our Mayor Scott Lang in the 3 minute video. Vote for New Bedford!

"Recently, Mayor Lang and the city of New Bedford put together a video showcasing how arts and culture make New Bedford a better places to live, work and visit. In my opinion, no other city on the list comes close to New Bedford. There are 16 other cities that have submitted short videos describing how the arts improve life in their communities, enhance their local economies, and contribute to the education of local youth. Mayor Lang and the city of New Bedford need YOUR YouTube vote to ensure we finish in the top three. Vote by Oct. 29, 2010 by “liking” New Bedford’s video! Share this article or the video on Facebook, Twitter and anywhere else you can!

Once voting closes, the three videos with the most “likes” on the Mayors’ Arts Challenge YouTube channel will be reviewed by an in-house panel at MCC. The video that speaks most effectively to the impact of arts and culture on a particular city will be determined the winner. MCC will announce the winner of the Mayors’ Arts Challenge in that mayor’s town soon thereafter. The winning video will also be showcased at the State House in February 2011 as part of the Commonwealth Awards, the state’s highest honors in arts and culture. It will also be shown by the national advocacy group Americans for the Arts at its annual presentation at the U.S. Conference of Mayors."

Sad Day

Well, I suppose we were due for some less-than-great luck after so many things have been going so well. The winds from a few days ago unfortunately blew one of our 8's off the top rack of our outside home. The 8 that blew off not only was damaged, but it hit another boat on it's way down, and also damaged that 8 as well...and the rack the second 8 was sitting on.

We've made it a point to be sure that all of our equipment is being strapped down correctly and tight enough, and we're all going to make sure that we take a second to double check things as we wrap up after practice.

While this is very unfortunate, we do have 3 other boats to row and our season is just a few more weeks. We'll be fine, and eventually so will our boats. I know a couple of great repairmen!

Note to all of you rowers out there - remember to take a second and care for your equipment that you rely on to be there for you...or it won't be.

Wow I'm behind!

Many apologies folks. I'm sure you're just dying for the latest and greatest from New Bedford. It's not that there hasn't been lots of exciting things happening down here - it's that there's been so much I've not gotten to blogging!

Friday we were still trying to figure out our racing situation for the weekend since we were not able to get entries in for the NH Champs Regatta before they filled up (before their deadline, to boot). However, in the end, we were able to set up a great scrimmage with Tom Tiffany's crews from the Newman School and Sarah Jones' crews, Gentle Giant. We all met at 7am up at the CRI boathouse (where I had to explain to our rowers that this is truly an amazing boathouse and not to expect to find others quite like it). We had 2 eights, 2 girls fours, and 2 boys fours. Only 3 of our adult rowers made it up there (Julie Thatcher, Margaret Ishihara, and Peter Hawes!) so we mixed them in with some of the Gentle Giant kids in the 8+.

CRI let us use their wakeless launches one of which is humongous and we could fit all of the parents on it with the coaches. It was a rare treat for us in several ways. For a bunch of novice rowers whose club is less than 6 months old to be able to row the Head of the Charles course a week before the actual regatta is incredible. The generosity of CRI and the equipment they loaned us (including the launches) made it a very fun morning for all of us. The parents were finally able to see what their kids *actually* do and hear the coaches interact with their children. They got to ask questions and see other boathouses along the Charles. We also learned that Margaret, Dylan Maciel, and Justin Medeiros are awesome at coxing! They all navigated a tough river with LOTS of traffic very well and most importantly, very safely.

After the scrimmage the kids, parents, and coaches went to iHop and it was good to just sit and chat with all of them. We have an incredible group of kids and their parents are very happy that they're rowing. Several parents have also commented on how great they think our adult rowers are and love that the adult team is so supportive and inclusive with the juniors. I'll admit - this is the best dynamic I've seen of rowing teams. Perhaps because we're still new and no one has gotten all curmudgeon-like yet, but I hope it stays this way! It makes for a really fun time all around.

Jonathan Haisman

He's one of our (very good) rowers and often teams up with Paul Milde to do some work on the boats and oars. He's a kind and generous man that has offered to sponsor one of the kids for their fall season. Many of the kids' families have requested either full or partial aid for their fall team dues and Jonathan is the second adult rower to sponsor a youth rower.

It warms my heart that the people here in New Bedford (and surrounding areas) are so willing to lend a hand, volunteer, chip in. I love this place and the people here. New Bedford Community Rowing is going to be an amazing place for so many and we're only getting started!!

Thank you to all who give in so many ways.

It's happenin' folks

Things here at NBCR are in high gear as we prepare for our first ever home regatta. And I'd have to say, it's sayin somthing when the club is less than 6 months old and we're already hosting regattas! We couldn't do it without the amazing volunteers that are too many to name. The rowers, the coaches, the families and friends are all what make this possible and I can't thank them enough. Let's have a great regatta and start a wonderful tradition for NBCR and New Bedford!!

Nancy Durfee

Nancy is one of our rowers on the adult team. She just began rowing with us this summer and has really done well. This past weekend she raced with the experienced women in the Master Women's Four and did a great job.

When writing her check to NBCR for her program fees, she added in an extra $125 to sponsor some of the kids that requested scholarship aid. Thank you, Nancy - every bit helps and these kids are getting to do amazing things because of people like you!

For those of you out there that want to sponsor a kid to row, please can contact us - any amount helps. www.newbedfordcommunityrowing.org

Race Prep!

We've got all hands on deck getting ready for the New Bedford Popes Island Regatta. The HDC is working really hard to help us get the waterway set and they even changed the dock around for us. CLE Engineering in Marion is helping us with permitting and getting maps/coordinates down. We have lots of volunteers taking on multiple tasks and because of all this amazing support, we're going to have a fantastic event!!

Textile River Regatta

While the official race results aren't posted on Regatta Central yet, we did get some finish results at the venue yesterday. The Textile River Regatta is one of the largest regattas in New England, and there were hundreds of boats racing. Normally the TRR is a very well organized and well run regatta but I have to admit that I found it not to be this year. Despite that, as well as the chaos within our own little world of sharing and borrowing equipment (Thank yous to CRI, Wayland/Weston, and Newman School!) the races ended up all going off, with hulls and oars for all! [there were a few times we wondered if we'd get everyone in a hull!]

The junior boys went out in their 8+ first. It took some serious teamwork just to get them launched as the boat we were borrowing from CRI was on the very top of the largest trailer (of 3 trailers) that they brought, and it was parked next to a telephone pole with wires staking it to the ground. So it was great to have many bodies helping to get it down and into slings so it could be rigged. We were lucky they started the race 30 minutes behind so that we could do the rigging and so that the amazing Brent Bode could do some boat repair on it's skeg (the fin on the bottom of the boat that helps keep it balanced and helps with steering). The parents and their coach, Briana Blood, said that they finished 22nd in a field of over 40 boats!!! Some of the kids in the boat learned to row less than 2 weeks ago!! Fantastic job, fellas!

The Men's Novice 4+ ended up being scratched, but Peter Hawes made the trip up anyway and was super helpful with all of the crews. The plan is to get the Men's Novice 4+ racing this weekend at Popes Island Regatta!!

Next up was the Women's Master 4+ and they were great. I can say this from first hand experience because I coxed this boat. From where the trailers were parked, we had over 6000 meters to row in order to get up to the start, and this was going against a rather strong current. They were constantly focused and made changes as needed. We got passed by a couple boats, but the women never gave in. They pushed hard the entire 5800 meters of the race and should be proud of themselves!

There was a HUGE delay while the Master 4+ was waiting to start (race time of 11:30 and we didn't go until about 12:30 or later) so I never got to see the Open Women's 4+ launch. Dylan - one of our junior boys coxed that boat and from what I'm told, they had a good race until the last 1500 meters or so when the winds were the worst and the water was roughest. They struggled, but fought together and had a good race!

As soon as I docked with the Master 4+, it was time for the Women's Novice 8+ to launch, so I hopped in the coxswain seat of that boat (taking with me the borrowed cox-box from Isaac Karasin - thank you!) and thank GAWD for that! It took us over 50 minutes to row by 6's all the way up the course and that's more rowing than these women have done in any of our practices. Then they still had to race! But they were ready and off we went. They held a solid stroke rating which was impressive since we don't have cox-boxes at home and haven't been able to do a lot of work with ratings. They raced for about 30 minutes straight which is probably twice as long as any pieces we've done in practice!! They were all amazing and I'm so proud.

Finishing off our day of racing, we launched our Junior Girls 8+. We only have 5 girls all season, so we weren't sure how we were going to fill the 8, but Mikayla Martinelli (who rowed with us all summer) filled a seat as well as 2 CRI girls that row for Brent Bode. We had our 8+!! They had never rowed their lineup before and had just met a few of the girls they were racing with, so they had a tough task ahead of them. I hear that the timing was tough to keep together, and it was windy but they're strong girls. Not just strong in power, but also in mind. They raced with heart and should all be proud of themselves. I know I'm proud of 'my peanuts'!

Great job by all that were there - coaches, rowers, parents, siblings, friends. It was a great learning experience for the rowers, coaches and parents as we prepare for the next two regattas. Come out to Popes Island in New Bedford this Saturday the 9th and see us race again!!

Saturday was prep time

Saturday's practice was a good one. We staggered the times of each lineup so that we could get the race lineups out and we had several people offer to cox those boats in order to help. It was great to see such support of each other. We had the Women's Novice 8 and the Master Women's 4 out early, and then the 4 came in and a second 8 came out. Both 8's did some short pieces and I think the Novice women felt a lot better about the upcoming race. It was a great practice!

Winds Winds Go AWAY

Lately we've been plagued with strong winds in the afternoon and evening and it's been wreaking havoc on our practice time! The kids have had to do more land workouts than Coach Briana would like and the adults have had to flat-out miss practice a few times. Last night the adults did get out in a four, but it was tough. Tonight we're hoping to get both the kids and adults out again, but someone needs to turn the darn fan off already!!

Fun 107

Boy was I nervous this morning! Yeah, we had practice and there's a race coming up and all but that's all nothin'. I'm talking about having to be on the radio and speak! Thanks to Larissa McLaughlin for setting up a radio spot for me on Fun 107, and of course thanks to J.R., Michael Rock, and Larry for having us on. They were so great! Well, other than teasing me about how nervous I was......

Racing!!!

Yep, that's right our racing season is about to begin. Both the youth and adult competitive teams will be traveling to Lowell, MA to race in the Textile River Regatta on Sunday. The kids have entered a novice junior boys 8, and a novice junior girls 8. We're very excited for them to experience their very first taste of competitive rowing! There will be a ton of other crews in attendance at TRR as it's a popular and well-run regatta. Look for the kids wearing blue and white tie-dye!

The adults have entered a men's novice 4 (but a few of our guys can't race so we're looking for any of you that have rowed with us over the summer to possibly fill a seat?) and they should do well. The 3 guys in the boat have been working hard and they're pretty strong. On the women's side, we'll have a women's master 4 of experienced rowers and in the master category they factor in an age handicap. Yes, it's finally a GOOD thing to get older! We also have an open women's 4 that will consist of rowers that aren't over 27 (to be eligible for the master event) but have experience and thus can't race in our women's novice 8. The novices need one more person to fill out the lineup, so again, any of you that rowed with us over the summer that want to hop in and give racing a shot, let us know! All of the rowers are doing really well and this Sunday will be a very fun time.

Pat Ball is even hosting a team pasta dinner on Saturday for both the kids and the adults. YUM!

And remember - next weekend will be OUR race right here in New Bedford!

Gary Schuyler

I just want to make sure the proper thanks goes out to Gary. He's a very busy man, and yet the other day he came down to the docks with slabs of wood, power tools, and drawings for an oar rack. He single-handedly built us the wonderful wooden oar rack that we now have in the container (photos to come). That has freed up a lot of space and helped us to separate the sets of oars.
Thank you, Gary. I know how busy you are and it was a fantastic gesture on your part!

Busy Week

It's been a pretty busy week, but a good one. We've gotten both the youth and adult competitive teams going and things improve on a daily basis. We have our new home on Popes Island mostly set and in great working order. So far the athletes seem to be having fun, and hopefully speed will soon follow!

Soon, we'll be having an organizing meeting about our Regatta on Saturday October 9th. Anyone who would like to help either before or during the regatta, we'd LOVE to have you. Just give Carolyn a call or shoot her an email: 508.717.4013, carolyn@communityrowing.org

Popes Island

This is our new home for the boats and the revamped dock! We have fencing around all of the boats now, and the HDC guys came back and totally changed the dock for us. They filled the bubbles so that they are low enough in the water for us, and they made the dock wider so we could fit easier. It was NOT easy work but they did a fantastic job!

Thank you to Kristin Decas, Debbie Yuille, and ALL of the HDC guys!!!!

Generosity

Well the good times keep on comin'. Many of you should remember Coach Will Mahoney that worked with us this summer. He did a lot for our program besides just coaching - he built our slings, he repaired boats, he painted oars. He also brought over his own personal whaler so that we could get more than one coach on the water.

Will has gone back to college (St. Lawrence University in Canada, ... er, I mean upstate New York) but his parents Tim Mahoney and Pam Donnelly came to our kickoff event on September 9th. They are just as great as Will and were very supportive of our club. They let us keep their whaler on loan through the fall season, which was a huge help to us.

But it gets even better. Will suggested to his parents that they donate their whaler to us and his parents agreed! It's people like them that are what enable us to get off the ground. Such a generous donation will have a huge impact on our programs. If you see any of them, please say thank you to them on our behalf!

Our New Home on Popes Island

That's right, our new home is taking shape quite nicely. We have been allowed to claim a section of grass on the east side of Popes Island and it's been great. There were a few snags the first week, but we've gotten most of them worked out. We have a shipping container (affectionately known as our "boathouse") that sits in the parking lot and allows us to lock up all of our tools and equipment. We're using some aluminum racks over near the ramp to store the boats, and we just had fencing set up to protect the boats, but also any little kids that may think we're part of the playground situated next to the racks. We don't want anyone climbing up, then falling and hurting themselves.

The dock was made very long by the HDC guys because they know our boats are so long. However, the bubble floats weren't filled with water or sand to lower them to the necessary height off the water. Also, because they made the dock so long, it wasn't wide enough. The HDC guys really busted their butts taking the whole thing apart (after spending an entire day putting it together for us last week), filling each bubble float, then putting it back together and mooring the dock again. These guys have SO much going on with a yacht show this weekend that will bring in an additional 50 boats to New Bedford Harbor. It was incredible that they took so much time out of their already busy schedule to help us. They're so fast, we only lost one evening practice of water time. Without them, we definitely would have missed many many more.

Any of you that know Kristin Decas, the Executive Director for the HDC or any of the people that work for her, please shake their hand and say thank you on behalf of NBCR. They have all been incredible. We are loving our new location!!
